MRE's sold locally?
Are there local stores that sell MRE's like Sams Club. Or is that all mail order?

"In case you're not aware, it is also inadvisable to eat nothing but MREs for more than 3 or 4 weeks straight. MREs were never intended for long term use."
I did not know that, I have never done it, and don't plan on doing it. But thanks for the info. Wow 3 whole posts, see how the time flys. |
Re: MRE's sold locally?
If you're in the U.S. stick to U.S. Military MRE's, and purchase them only by the UNOPENED case. Individual plastic menu packages are not dated...the case is so if it's unopened you are assured of the packaging and (3-year later) test dates.
These MRE's are whole meal menus complete with dessert, drink, and a 2-ounce water activated chemical heater that has marvelous applications in other places like thawing a frozen pipe, etc. Be careful when you activate one. Follow the directions on the package and watch the steam that's produced....it can burn you badly. Civilian MRE's are often not complete meals, do not have a chemical heater, and are more expensive. The best place to get the military MRE's is at local gun shows...talk with dealers who offer military surplus items. If they don't have any with them they can get them for you. A good price is $40.00 per case. Each year two cases are produced: and "A" case and a "B" case. Each case contains twelve different meal menu's...24 different ones all in all. Check http://www.mreinfo.com for all the information you might want to know, including the contents of each of the 24 meal menus that have been produced each year since 1986. Just look at the year that the case of meals you have was packaged. It'll tell you precisely what you have in each menu. IMO every home ought to have at least a half dozen cases for emergent use. Roate the MRE's on hand by using the meals for camping, hiking, fishing, a quick full meal at home, on the road, etc...they're great. |
Re: MRE's sold locally?
I just bought some of these....
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MRE175-57544-639.html I'm toying with the idea of putting together some Hurricaine/Emergency Kits to sell locally to people who are.......hmm......less prepared than many here at GIM. I plan to test one. I'll update here after I do. |
Re: MRE's sold locally?
hmm why are you buying them? Like the taste? Or saving for an emergency?
